  Chapter 1

Sunlight streamed through the private jet’s windows as we soared high above the skies. Clouds passed by in a hurry like someone had blown dandelion seeds all around. We were due to land in New York momentarily. I gave a stretch and yawned, prepared to be back home but I knew nothing would be the same. I had inherited a child who was now my sole responsibility as well as gaining what I considered an unlikely ally in the form of his uncle.

I watched Darien Kiriakis in the chair across from me. He was working on reports of some kind for his family’s business. One hand went to the collar of his shirt and with the swiftness of a viper, he unbuttoned it just a bit. I could see the smoothness of his collar bone and immediately imagined biting along the skin.

  “Lana, what is it?”

Darien never looked up from his typing. I had no idea how he had known I was watching him. Maybe it was some unknown superpower of his that he possessed. Either way, I was impressed that he could tell that I was watching him. In truth, I had come to enjoy watching him but now I wondered if he had always been aware that my eyes had swayed to his form whenever he entered a room.

  “Huh?”

“You’re watching me. I assumed you wanted something.” The clicking of his fingers continued against his keyboard.

“No,” a blush came over my face. I was sure if my chocolate-colored skin had been fair, I would have been the color of a tomato.

“Mmmhmm,” he replied never taking his eyes away from his work.

I settled back into the plush seat of the jet and closed my eyes. The pilot came over the intercom and announced we would be landing in forty minutes. I took a deep breath and willed my mind to relax. Soon I had drifted back to sleep.

It seemed only minutes had passed before Darien was tapping my shoulder to wake me. I yawned and caught myself in the act. I was sure I needed a toothbrush at this very point in time.

“You’ve been exhausted,” he smiled. “You’re going to sleep good tonight in my penthouse.”

“I…I was thinking of staying at my old place.”

He looked taken aback. He stepped away and began to gather his things. I sighed and realized that I may have injured his feelings. Reaching out to touch him, I felt him pause under my hand. He looked back at me.

“I would love to stay with you tonight,” I said giving in.

A smile spread across his lips. “Good. Let’s go.”

It was so weird to think that I was the reason behind his smiling. When we had first met all those months ago, during the fall, I had hated this man’s guts. The pompous way in which he had inserted himself into my life. Darien had been a first-class asshole. Yet, here he was taking my hand in his and pulling me down the aisle of his private yet and off to his penthouse. Before him, I hadn’t known anyone that owned an entire car, let alone a penthouse.

A black town car was waiting to take us to our destination. Once we were safely tucked inside and spirited away, a feeling came over me. It wasn’t one that I could quite describe. I couldn’t place my finger on what was running all over my body.

Darien’s hand eased over my thigh and got my attention. Softly, his fingertips began to dance over my jean-clad legs until he had inched higher. I looked over at him, biting my lip softly.

“I’ll be busy most of the day tomorrow.”

“Me too. I’m going to meet with this lawyer and…”

Darien sighed and removed his hand. I didn’t know whether to be bothered by the action or not, so I resolved to not feel anything at all. I was starting to miss Alex and had made plans to facetime with Helena to see him.

After a moment, Darien spoke and I could tell he was trying to choose his words wisely. “My brother, Allanah. For all his trying….he wasn’t a good man. And he didn’t always keep the best company. Drinking and drugging. Running through women like a river.”

  “Your point?”

“Lana…your sister already had you down on paper to take over caring for our nephew.”

My arms instinctively folded over my chest and I cut a look at Darien. “She was my blood.”

“And Mikos was mine…but again, terrible man. I just don’t want you getting your hopes up that things will be clearer than they were before.”

I rolled my eyes at him and looked away from the sight of him. Darien could never possibly hope to understand me or Dana. Everything that the two of us had gone through as children had shaped us into the women we’d grown into. I knew that it was important to the grieving process that I learn as much as I could about the last year of my sister’s life. Why had she given up Alex before she’d ever even held him? Had Dana loved Mikos? How had the two of them even met? I hoped that this lawyer would give me some shred of information, even if it was just a speck of knowledge.

I tucked strands of my loose hair behind my ears, my eyes burning with the need to cry. I held it together though.

Never let them see you cry!

Dana’s words rang in my ears. I swear all these years later I still thought she had been the strong one. She had been flawed; we all were. However, my sister had possessed the power to live life on her terms.

Darien and I fell into an uncomfortable silence as the car sped along the highway. It took us into Manhattan from JFK and the odd sensation of being back on American soil began to flood my senses. Damn, it just felt good to be home.

Street lights moved through the darkened vehicle and eventually I felt the car come to a stop. Someone was waiting to take our luggage up to the penthouse. I was quiet as I exited and brushed past Darien’s offer to help me out of the car.

A man held the door open for me and I went inside the building. I realized I didn’t know where I was going and that I still needed to wait for Alexander’s annoying ass uncle. He came by me and captured my hand in his and pulled me to the waiting elevator. Darien used his free hand to tap the up button and the elevator opened.

It launched us through the building made of steel and glass. Still, my hand continued to be held in his. I looked down at his olive skin enveloping my brown-colored flesh. I bet we made quite the sight, but this was New York. Everybody was on some different shit here. We wouldn’t even be a second thought. Maybe if we’d been down South where my mother had or
iginated from in North Carolina.

  Ding!

The sound pulled me from my thoughts, and we stepped off the elevator. The floor leading up to his penthouse was all red carpet. Even before we had left for Greece, I hadn’t been here. I bit my lip and felt myself being pulled along.

He opened the door and flicked on the lights. The entire interior was gorgeous and looked like no one had even lived here. It was also way bigger than my loft that probably cost me the same amount of money.

“Do you like?” He asked me as he took in my face and drew me in close and tried to kiss me.

“Nope, I’m pissed at you,” I said and pushed him away.

I went to stand over by the windows. We were surrounded by glass, completely. I bet he’d probably spent millions on this property. I felt him standing behind me and then I felt his lips begin to touch and caress the side of my neck. The feelings of annoyance and anger were starting to dissipate.

“I don’t like to see you upset, Lana,” the way he said my name still gave me chills. There had been a time in the world when I had detested him saying my name at all.

“Could have fooled me,” I rolled my eyes.

“I want you to have answers about your sister. I just don’t want you to be disappointed if there is nothing miraculous to be found.”

He turned me around then to meet his eyes. He tilted my chin up then and very slowly but surely, dipped his head down and captured my lips with his. I hated to admit how damn smitten I was with him. All those old feelings were becoming replaced by something I couldn’t quite put a name to.

The heat and passion that he brought into kissing me were undeniable. I melted into the hardness of his body. The way his lips moved over mines and the way he captured my face in between his hands ultimately, made me want to never kiss another man ever again. In fact, how had no other man ever captured my lips the way Darien did. His kisses made me forget when I was angry or when I was sad. They stirred something up inside of me and all I knew was that I had to have him. I wanted to take him deep inside my body and keep him there.

  Forever.

  Chapter 2

The restaurant across the street had delivered our takeout nearly twenty minutes ago. We had decided to go that route when we realized Darien he had forgotten to have his assistant in the New York office stock the fridge.

I had devoured the Cobb salad with Avocado and Ranch dressing within moments. Happily, I dropped the plastic container in the recycling bin and then went to sit on the plush gray-colored couch. Darien’s iPad was sitting there waiting as I checked the time. Greece was 7 hours ahead and so it was past midnight there.

I pouted playfully at the thought of not being able to tell Alex goodnight. Chances are, he’d been asleep for hours now, anyway. A yawn escaped from my throat. Even I was getting a little exhausted and could have probably used the rest. In the morning, I was going to meet with Dana’s lawyer. I didn’t know what secrets awaited me there, but I knew I would be signing off on a handsome inheritance for both Alex and me.

Darien came out of the bathroom, towel slung low across his hips, with just a hint of that V shape peering out and teasing my eyes. He looked like the ninth world wonder. I’d never tell him that, though. He had too many women ready to fawn all over him and jump at his command.

“See something you like?” He asked and smirked.

“You are not cute,” I replied, ready to go take my shower. I had given myself a sniff earlier and hot water and soap were much needed.

  “Did you call, Helena?”

I rolled my eyes. “No, I know it’s too late and I didn’t want to wake them.”

“I’m extremely surprised,” he came closer and dropped a kiss on my lips.

“I have self-control,” the words escaped from my mouth and he kissed me again.

“Barely,” he nipped at my lips then walked away to go back into the bedroom.

I followed close behind ready for that shower. As Darien pulled on his clothes, I slipped into the glass structure and let the water beat down on me. My hair needed a good wash anyway. I figured while I was here, I could go and get someone to do it.

After lathering up and hitting all the important parts twice, I exited and began to dry off. When I came out of the bathroom, towel around my body I found it completely dark. The only light came from the bathroom. I instantly became nervous but soon made out the shape of Darien on his king-sized bed.

“What are you doing weirdo?” I asked softly still looking around and wanting an exit.

I could feel him watching every movement I made in the dark. It was that slow creeping feeling that started at the base of your spine, causing the hair to stand up on your arms. Darien was in an almost predatory mood. A sleek lion on the savannah, accessing the situation ready to pounce with a thunderous might.

“I want to introduce you to something.”

“Another one of your fire and ice games?” I asked and pulled the towel a little tighter around my still wet and dripping body.

He moved in the dark and I could see him get off the bed and come towards me. He had something in his hands. I realized that it was braided cord; they were colored in a deep purplish-red tint. He brought them up and held them to my face and eased them around my face and skin.

“Let the towel go,” he declared.

The blue towel that had soaked up water from my wet body pooled by my feet on his command. A whooshing sound was made as the cloth hit the floor and then there was only the sound of our breathing. My heart had sped up just a bit and I wondered if he could hear it.

He smiled down on me, his blue eyes almost seemed to glow from the bathroom light. I could see the fire and the intensity that lay there. It was waiting to take us both over as it often did when the two of us made love.

“I like when you obey,” the words danced in the air, but I said nothing. “Hold out your wrist. We’ll start there.”

I watched as he slowly at first slipped the velvet ropes around my wrist in a loop like fashion. Once they were tied in place and wrapped around my wrist, the velvet began its slow biting into the skin. It was almost like a slow burn. The robes began to wrap themselves around my body under the control of Darien’s hands. I looked down; my breasts were protruding out through the bindings.

“I’ve never played this game with you before, Lana. Don’t be afraid though.”

My unbound legs carried me to the bed as I was led along by Darien’s much taller frame. He commanded me to sit on the bed and that flitter of fear went through me. Much like it had the first time he’d ever bound me up. There was something different about this time though. The bindings were different. They were more intricate and more beautiful in a way than the last time we’d done rope play. I could feel the coolness of the white duvet nipping into my ass, inviting me to search for a warmth that I wouldn’t find. My nipples were now even harder than before.

  No this was different.

  This was intricate and planned.

“The Japanese, have a word for this,” Darien said.

He was still standing and watching me analyzing the way the ropes had me held in place. Finally, I looked up into this face, watching him watch me.

  “Will it hurt?”

“Only if you want it to,” he shrugged, getting down in between my legs.

The bindings were tight and starting dig into the flesh of my backs and sides. It felt like I had fire roaming all over my body. Darien eased me onto my back and then began to lick and taste at the flesh between my legs. He draped one of my legs over his shoulder and all I could do was moan.

  “Fuck,” I said out loud.

“Here, you don’t have to whisper. You can be as loud as you want to be.”

  “Mmm. Really?”

  “Yes, Lana, really.”

“Good, put your fucking head back down there and make me cum,” my body strained against the bindings.

Every lick and swirl brought me closer and closer to my desired peak. I wanted nothing
more than to cum all over his face. I wanted to douse him in my juices and smile when it was all over with. I could feel his fingers part my flesh roughly and I didn’t mind. He attacked the entire area with ferocity; and, I craved the attention he was giving me.

The moment his fingers slid into it felt like a hot knife slicing through butter; I was melting on the inside. I was starting to buck wildly on the bed and then just as quickly as he started, he stopped. Who had permitted him to stop so suddenly? I had just about been in reach of peaking and then he’d quit.

“Wh…what are you doing?” I gasped out trying to find the air to feel my lungs.

Suddenly, his hands gripped into my calves as he pulled me from the bed and down onto the floor. We were face to face, and I leaned out to kiss him, but he stopped me.

“No one has ever taken to all of this the way you have, Lana.”

“Mmmhmmm,” I replied not caring a damn about whoever else he’d been tying up.

I wanted him and I wanted him now. If it hadn’t been for these damn binding, I would have jumped his ass and rode him into the floor. My kitty was ready for him to open me up and pound into me. I wanted all of him inside of me and if I didn’t have it soon, I was going to lose my mind.

  “Patience,” he whispered.

“Darieeeennn, you pick the weirdest damn times to want to talk.”

His hands eased down the length of my body, they were cold. Then instantly they were back up to my breast and slowly he began to roll my nipples in between his fingers. All I could do was arch into the pleasure and pain that his hand brought forth.

“Kinbaku…” he whispered and then leaned down to playfully nip at my lips.

  “Kin-wha?” I asked.

“The Japanese word for what I’ve done to you. How,I’ve tied the ropes.”

“Mmmm, that’s nice. Darien, I need you to bend me over this bed and I need you to fuck my brains out. Okay?”

He let out the world’s loudest laugh and I rolled my eyes. Finally, he obliged though. Turning my body to the bed, I was able to lean forward and rest and waited until he entered me from behind. My God, it was like waiting for ice cream as a child on a hot summer day but felt even better. I felt him all the way to my core and he slid out and thrust back in; I wondered how I could ever let him go.
